Safer Ageing for Older People - Community Response

Our new Community Response model was developed to allow us to take a more community-focussed approach to responding to the abuse of older people, particularly in relation to their changing needs during and following the 2019- 2021 - Covid-19 pandemic.

While Hourglass services have traditionally had a primarily national reach, we are now working to further develop our community-based work to allow us to decentralise our activities and bring together all services into a new community response model. With a broader focus on ‘safer ageing’, this will create an end-to-end model from prevention and early intervention, right through to recovery and moving on from abuse.

The project is centred around a new Community Hub, where older people, their loved ones and professionals can access tailored and comprehensive support and advice. Although based in Fife, the Hub will have a community presence in the local area, as well as a national reach across the whole of Scotland.

The Hub will act as a one-stop-shop, providing advice and guidance to older people and others concerned about elder abuse, as well as a broader focus on safer ageing to allow us to support any older person. This will allow us to support victims of abuse, as well as proactively preventing abuse by helping older people to keep safe from harm, abuse and exploitation.
